Sliding Bushes

Sliding Bearings are Bearings whereby the shaft slides in the Bearing. The friction and wear of Sliding Bearings is higher than in Roller Bearings. To reduce friction lubrication is often used.

 

Friction can also be reduced by a proper choice of materials. ‘Bronze Bearing’ material is used this way. This is a special alloy with lubricating properties. Another material for Sliding Bearings is ‘Babbitt metal’, an alloy which a.o. includes copper, tin and antimony. Nowadays also special man made fibers are used.
